The IMG National Football team has just finished up a remarkable season (8-0) that’s lined them up to possibly be the next National Champions. IMG Football, led by head coach Bobby Acosta, is headlined by seniors J.J McCarthy (Quarterback), Markevious Brown (Defensive Back), and Malik McClain (Wide Receiver).

While the seniors are regarded as some of the best players in the country, the underclassmen are arguably even more impressive. Standout juniors like offensive tackle Tyler Booker and running back Kaytron Allen are some of the best in the country while sophomore Xavier Terrell, another running back, is already making an impact on the big stage.

When asked to comment on the team’s national spotlight, Terell remarked, “It was a pretty cool experience playing on national stages like ESPN2 with people that you can trust on the left and right to do their jobs.” This team has been flat out dominant in the 2020 season as it has knocked off multiple high-ranking teams like the Texas powerhouse Duncanville and Florida juggernaut Miami Northwestern, who are both ranked in the top 15 nationally. These wins have allowed IMG Academy to hold a firm grip on the number one spot in the country.

In a recent interview with Sports Illustrated, Acosta described his the IMG national team as a “player led team.” This dynamic has helped kickstart their remarkable run. The star quarterback, McCarthy, described the team as a “brotherhood” in a video with IMG Football earlier this fall.  Acosta has emphasized and attempted to build upon since his arrival on campus.

When asked about the team in terms of a “brotherhood” like McCarthy, Terrell commented, “brotherhood was one word used a lot. From having each other’s back to trusting one another throughout the whole season and even beyond that.”

With their 8-0 record to end the season, the Ascenders look to be High School Football National Champions once the rest of the country wraps up their seasons here in the next few weeks. This achievement would be the first in history of the football program allowing, IMG to become the first high school to win a National Championship in three major sports, joining basketball and baseball.
